"I Just Don't Know"

A Monk Named John

It's hard to believe it's been 14 months since we visited Thailand. One of our most vivid memories from the trip was an encounter that we had the very first day with a monk named John. A Canadian who had traveled to Bangkok in search of truth, John had joined the monastery to immerse himself in the Buddhist faith, hoping to find the answers to life's meaning for which he was desperately searching. Our providential meeting that first day gave us a unique opportunity to explore the Buddhist religion from a monk's perspective (and in English!).
Left: The home where we met and talked with John; Right top: The temple;
Right bottom: As we left, we saw our first monitor lizard. It's just like a small dragon, no big deal. ;)
As we left that experience, we were struck with the phrase that had most often come out of John's mouth:
"I just don't know."
For all that he had learned in his immersed lifestyle at the monastery, he still had only ideas of what life, death, and the hereafter might mean. As he explained his knowledge, his hopes, his faith, the best he could ever say was, "but I just don't know."
Oh that he would receive the hope of the Gospel! Our hearts ache for the people of Thailand who have never had the opportunity to hear the Truth.
"You will KNOW the truth, and the truth will set you free." John 8:32
We long for the day when we hear Thai brothers and sisters proclaim:
"I KNOW that my redeemer lives, and that in the end he will stand on the earth." (Job 19:25)
Please pray with us for the Lord to do this work among His elect in Thailand and build His Kingdom there. Please pray that God would call more people to go and proclaim truth to those who have never heard. We take heart in this glorious promise:
This is why we are preparing to go to Thailand.
Right now the biggest obstacle in the way of our departure is monthly financial support. We need many more people to partner with us through monthly giving before we can go. Would you prayerfully consider joining our team as a monthly contributor?
We are so grateful for those of you who have already partnered with us and have begun monthly giving- largely because of your faithful generosity, we are already to 75% of our one-time deployment budget (the money needed for tickets, visas, home set-up, etc.)! Please continue to pray for the Lord to provide our remaining monthly need (over 45% remaining).

"Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen." (Ephesians 3:20-21)
Much love,
the Englands
